Make the shim just thick enough that when you push the tenon into the mortise, the wedge will expand the shoulders of the tenon snug. The back, top, bottom, shelves and one side is 18mm ply and the good side that will be seen is frame and panel Oak, also dominoed. If you need a haunch, it is probably easier to cut this by hand. This tenon stock is available in three diameters and in precut lengths of 1-1/2", 2", 2. 5" long. The spacer should be a hair thinner than the width of the mortise plus the width of the sawkerf.
